Dairy and Dairy Product Testing

FSA laboratories offer analysis for milk, cheese, other dairy products, as well as products containing ingredients derived from milk.  The Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC) and Standard Methods for the Examination of Dairy Products (SMEDP) test methods are used for analysis.

The dairy and dairy product testing service examines the sample of milk and other dairy products for their nutritious content and adulteration if present.

A comprehensive variety of tests are carried out depending on the type of dairy products. Some of the tests include:

Chemical analysis

Chemical analysis like fat, protein, total nitrogen, non-protein nitrogen, total solids,  moisture, acidity, free fatty acids, salt content and much more.

Microbiological analysis

Microbiological analysis including total plate count, coliform, E.coli, Yeast and Mold, somatic cell count, pathogens like Salmonella, Shigella, Listeria monocytogens, Escherichia coli O157:H7etc.

Nutritional analysis

Nutritional analysis including fat, protein, carbohydrates, sodium, Potassium, Cholesterol, fatty acid profiling and various vitamins.

Residue analysis

It is including testing of mycotoxins (Aflatoxin M1), pesticides, heavy metals and various veterinary drug residues.

Adulteration tests

Adulteration tests like added urea, cane sugar, starch, detergents, neutralizers, formalin, ammonium sulphate and hydrogen peroxide etc.
